There might be an error in the description above..
Should it be University of Wisconsin-Madison..NOT Wisconsin University..please double check.

A friend told me of another Indonesian talent shining overseas. I googled it and found him. His name is Dr. Yanto Chandra, Ph.D, Tenured Assistant Professor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship at the Amsterdam Business School, University of Amsterdam (UvA), Netherlands. Uva is currently ranked no. 49 in the world according to TheQS and no. 51 according to Financial Times 2008.

This Dr Yanto Chandra is the first Indonesian green passport holder who holds a Tenure in a highly prestigious institution in the Netherlands (Tenure is a honour given to someone who achieves academic excellence and a permanent position – cannot be fired forever), a title that is normally obtained within 4-6 tahun under conditions of top performance, but this Dr Chandra got it in only 2 years. Sounds amazing. I checked in his website, he is apparently listed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World, a kind of Standard & Poors rating agency that lists high calibre people with significant contributions to the world.

Whilei Tansu is a Medan boy, Chandra is a Dumai boy. Dumai is close to Pekan Baru, a city which is also not far away from Medan. Born on 29 Sept 1974, Dr Chandra was a valedictorian (best graduate) in his high school in SMU 1 Bukit Jin Dumai. He then pursued his Bachelor of Economics in Trisakti University and graduated nearly cum laude at the top of his batch. He was the recipient of 3 prestigious scholarships in Australia given his top records in school and workplace. He did an aviation degree – trying to be a pilot but which he didnt finish off. The completed Master of Commerce at UNSW in Australia and then a PhD at UNSW.

He obtained 3 publications in top journals (Journal of World Business, International Marketing Review, International Journal of Production Research). I heard from a local professor in Indonesia that to publish in such top journal is like pushing a camel into a needle’s hole….its really hard and take an average of 3-5 years to get a piece. Unlike engineering or science papers which can get published in a shorter lead time (within a few months), getting a publication in top scientific business journals is crazily hard. No wonder I rarely see Indonesian names published in such top journals in business.

Dr Chandra also frequently speaks in prestigious international journals, such as Academy of Management, Academy of International Business, MGill International Entrepreneurship Conference, Australian & New Zealand Academy of Management, Australian & New Zealand Academy of Marketing. He has made speeches in United States, UK, Finland, Netherlands, France, Italy, China, Taiwan, Indonesia.

We are proud to have this talent from Indo! We hope that he will return to Indo one day and make a great contribution. He could be our next Minister of Trade or Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises or even Minister of Education. So great to come across this Dr Chandra.
