You may also request it from them. The standards are different for each city of Indonesia and for different sectors of the industry. It ranges from 5% - 10% difference for each type of industry. Tips = Service = Tips No service = No Tips :-) As for the tour guides, if you went for private tours, some will ask for it indirectly, so it really depends on yourself. It is not expected. It is not necessary to tip tour guides either. They are well paid by Indonesian standards. You can give them a tip if you want to, but it is not usual, and they should certainly NEVER ask for it (a difference with say USA, is that some Indonesians who meet a lot of tourists start ASKING for tips.
