International Humanity Foundation in Medan

Giving and Helping out the less fortunate has always been part of MedanKu.com philosophy.  We strive to help put as much as we can.  Seeing many of the poor especially the young children on the streets trying to help make enough money for the family daily needs instead of being in a school for proper education, we at MedanKu.com (the leading website of Medan) hope that we can help to spread the words and help these people in need.

Many of us often donate to the orphanage, elderly homes, the homeless etc.. but many times, the children education has often been left out.  At MedanKu.com, we deeply believe in Child education, by educating these children whom will be leading our future, by giving the basic education, we sincerely believe that this is the road to a better and peaceful world.

As we were searching for such organization, we were delighted to come upon the International Humanity Foundation suprisingly located in Medan.  On Thursday 4 September 2008, we paid a visit to the centre at Jalan Tempuling near Jalan Pancing and Jalan Prof H.M Yamin ( Aksara Area )

According to International Humanity Foundation:

“Half of IHF’s mission is to educate the poor and the other half is to educate the world about the poor. Our vision is to strive for a world of leaders and citizens who have interacted with, and are truly knowledgeable about the world’s poor. We believe in a “pass it on” philosophy where education is free and available for all who seek it. Those of us who have received a free education pass it on by helping others less fortunate by teaching, interacting and learning. With just a few hours a week, our volunteers, children and sponsors are changing the world we live in.

IHF is a non-religious, non-political, non-profit organization that strongly believes in an equal opportunity for all and in preserving the cultures, traditions and beliefs of the marginalized communities it works in.”

The Centre is also in need of computer parts such as keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, scanners and printers.

The International Humanity Foundation Center in Medan was set up by Ms Carol and currently, the centre is providing free education to over 300 children living near the area.

There are many ways that you can choose to help out:

  • Being a Volunteer,
  • Sponsoring a Class,
  • Sponsoring a Child or
  • Simple Donations.

Most importantly, all funds donated to IHF will be used in one of their many project locations to help only the poorest of the poor.

“None of your contributions will ever go to administrative costs or other expenses. “

with a mission to build … The Longest Millipede in the World?

Definitely Not a simple task, it took 5 people 4 hours to build one Millipede as shown below by the Team from Macan Group as one of the corporate sponsors. There are also many unfinished blocks on stage, where the sponsors will return to complete them on another day :-)

First, we have to choose the lego bricks from this Lego well

Then, follow step by step instructions to fix the little Lego Bricks

yap… its hollow inside the millipede :-)

I bet, organizing the bricks into a name is the most difficult part, making sure every piece is in the right position…

The organizer has prepared 400 blocks of millipede for everyone to participate in this fun and meaningful fund raising charity event. Can you see that huge pile of black boxes on top left in the picture above? Those are the 400 modules / blocks of millipede imported direct from Lego Denmark!

You can still play a part and join in the fun as corporate sponsors or even individual sponsor to build the Millipede. It should be fun to bring your children along as a family event too! Just look at the crowd of kids and family below:
