If you plan to travel between Medan and Jakarta or other parts of Indonesia, you may want to consider taking Lion Air. I have just tried their service taking the latest Boeing 737-900ER from Medan to Jakarta.
Lion Air is one of the best budget airlines you can find in Indonesia costing only about Rp580.000 (USD 60) to Rp650.000 (USD 70) for a one way trip between Medan and Jakarta. Comparing to the price of Garuda Indonesia where a one way ticket can cost more than Rp1.100.000 (USD 120), Lion Air is almost half the price of Garuda.
Airliners in Indonesia are not the safest with many incidents and accidents over the years. Safety standards are questionable that is why Garuda Indonesia has become more and more expensive to fly as it is considered the safest among the rest. The only reason for me to try Lion Air is the new Boeing.
Lion Air ordered 178 units of the latest Boeing 737-900ER to fly and with such a new plane, safety standard should be “ok” or better than Garuda’s aging plane. As promoted by Lion Air, they are ensuring first priority in safety standards.
Lion Air is also the first airliner in the World to own and operate the NEW Boeing 737-900ER. So if you are one of those airplanes enthusiasts, you may want to fly to Indonesia and try out the NEW Boeing 737-900ER

The only drawback of Lion Air is the leg room, very tight not comfortable for tall or overweight people. The seats - too upright and of course no food (budget airlines) served and no food on sale so you need to get fill your stomach before boarding the flights.
