Medan Travel Statistics 2008

Visit Indonesia Year 2008 has ended and here are the results of the year long campaign to bring visitors to Indonesia which includes Medan.
Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI) the guiness world of records of Indonesia has recorded 6.4 million tourists to Indonesia in 2008 – during the Visit Indonesia Year 2008. This is a 16.36% increase in visitors compared to 5.5 million tourists in 2007.
Here are detailed statistics of the number of tourist to North Sumatra as reported by the BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik) of the province of North Sumatra for November 2008 and December 2008.
North Sumatra Tourist Statistics
Total number of tourists that visits North Sumatra from 3 entry points (land, sea, air) as of December 2008 is 18,040 people. This is a 41.12% increase compared to November 2008.
When compared to December 2007, this is a 31.31% increase from 13,844 people to 18,040 people.
115,079 domestic travelers departed North Sumatra from Medan Polonia Airport in December 2008 which is a 2.52% increase over November 2008. Domestic Arrival to North Sumatra increased 13.56%.
A total of 45,375 people departed Medan Polonia Airport to International destinations in December 2008 which is a 14.67% increase over November 2008. Whereas 48,696 visitors arrive Medan Polonia Airport in December 2008.
Sea Ports Travel Statistics
A total of 11,515 domestic passengers arrive North Sumatra in December 2008 compared to a total of 3,538 passengers left North Sumatra.
Hotel Occupancy in North Sumatra
According to the BPS Statistics, the hotel occupancy rates for North Sumatra for December 2008 is 40.41%, a 0.94% decrease compared to November 2008 at 41.35%
