Travel Tips on your Flight with Lion Air
Lion Air, Indonesian favorite budget airlines, is popular among the locals because of the low price, seat allocation, 25 kg baggage allowance, allows direct connection between flights and the most important of all, the plane is Brand NEW Boeing 737-900ER. In fact, Lion Air is the first airliner in the world to fly the NEW Boeing.
Prices of Lion Flights for Medan – Jakarta can be as low as Rp450.000 compared to its competitor Garuda Airlines of over Rp1.500.000-. Do note, that it is still advisable to check out prices of both airliners before booking your flights since sometimes Lion Air flights can cost as much as Garuda Indonesia. In which case, you may choose Garuda Indonesia over Lion Air.
Some passengers prefer Lion Air for its new planes over Garuda. However, business travelers and “larger or taller” passengers may opt for Garuda instead of Lion Air for its larger leg room, its business class and “branding”. Garuda has announced flying some new Boeing but is still limited to certain number flights.
The Downsides of Lion Air
However, traveling with Lion Air is not without any flaw, seats are small and tight compared to Garuda Indonesia, and services are of average standard.

When boarding the plane, do take note that both the front and the rear doors are always open for both boarding and disembarking. Hence, it is advisable to either board the plane early or be the last few to do so. This is to avoid the Passenger Jam on the plane. As there are no crew or staff to guide passenger on which door to use when boarding, some first time local passengers with front seat number (like row 4 – row 10) may opt to use the rear door and hence causing the inconvenience.

Choosing a Good Seat
If you are boarding the Lion air flight using the Boeing 737-900 ER or flight operating between Medan and Jakarta, you may want to arrive at the check in counter an hour earlier and request for the emergency seats – 30B, 30C, 30D, 30E as well as 31A and 31B. There are other emergency seats in the front of the plane too.
These emergency seats have a larger leg room than other seats on the plane. However, do note that these seats are next to the emergency doors hence you may be burden with extra responsibility of operating the doors in emergency as the crew will instruct you before your flight.
Emergency seats are also allocated for the adults only. No children are allowed to seat here, if you are traveling with children, do point it out to the check in counter staff as they never take note of this. We have seen passengers with children being moved on several occasions on board.
As these seats are towards the rear of the aircraft, hence boarding and disembarking using the rear door is very convenient. However, do avoid emergency seat no. 31B, 31C, 31D and 31E as these seats are exceptionally tight in the leg room.

In addition, please do take note of the luggage security, many times, our luggage are being forced opened as seen in the picture above. Although none of our belongings are being taken. We do believe that the culprits were eyeing on good luggages and looking only for electronics like camera and mobile phones. Hence, do hand carry your belongings whenever is possible.

Well, it is suppose to be a new aircraft unless…. maybe Lion Air is carrying too much weight or cargo? Since the plane is filled to the Max.
You are correct. Many times I can smell Durian on the plane when air cond is off. Maybe Lion air transport Durian in cargo. This can be dangerous like rumor of Mandala Air accidents carrying Durian overweight a few years ago.
Lion Air should watch this for safety of passengers
