Jing Chinese Restaurant

JING RESTAURANT – Chinese Food

Jing Restaurant, a newly open Chinese Restaurant at basement of Cambridge Mall, is a casual dining place for Chinese DIM SIM - the menu at the restaurant, features an array of rice and noodle dishes as well as freshly made Dim Sum.  The Restaurant’s head Chef is from Shanghai, hence you can expect the true authentic Chinese dishes omitting the local Indonesian style Chinese flavor.

Dim Sum – meaning “Breakfast” in Mandarin has been widely and commonly used as a term for the special kind of Chinese Cuisine prepared and served in small portions in the pictures below. Now, Dim Sum is no longer limited to being served at breakfast. But is also commonly served for lunch.

“Jing” meaning Source of Ingredients in Mandarin

We had the honor to a private “Dim Sum Food Tasting” before the restaurant was officially opened. The dishes had been pre-ordered for us which all turned out impressive.  The “HarKao”,  is my favorite, you can taste the sweet and crunchy of the fresh whole prawn wrapped around the rice paper.

The ever popular Chinese “Char Seow” Bun tastes just as impressive as the photos shown, very comforting to the stomach. Traditionally the “Char Seow” (meaning Barbeque in Mandarin) Bun is filled with well… “Char Seow Pork” but in Indonesia including Jing, the buns are commonly filled with “Chicken Char Seow” to cater to local requirements.

You can see the rest of the mouth watering Dim Sum in the pictures we took below.

Jing Restaurant is one of the very few casual Dim Sum places found in Medan apart from Nelayan Dim Sum.  The DIM SUM dishes from Jing are freshly made from their kitchen and not those of frozen or advance prepared dishes.  With casual settings and kids friendly restaurant, Jing is a very good place to hang out with friends and family at any time of the day should you crave for Dim Sum which is served all day – including dinner.

The Lotus Wrap Glutinous Rice is another must try.  It comes in a nice portion with the dish being steamed to the right texture.

The Dim Sum at Jing are reasonably priced for the quality delivered.  Apart from DIM SUM, Jing also serves other Chinese dishes. Located at the basement of Cambridge Mall and Grand Swiss Bel Hotel, it is a convenient place for a quick lunch or a family dinner.

We mentioned the Grand Swiss Bel Hotel as the hotel does not have a Chinese Restaurant hence if you are staying at the Grand Swiss Bel Hotel and suddenly craves for Chinese Food, you will know where to go :-)

No matter how good the food tastes (haven’t tried though), definitely this is not an authentical Chinese restaurant as it doesn’t serve pork. Obviously charsiew chicken bun won’t taste as delicious as the original charsiew pork bun. This is the thing I hate about Chinese restaurants in Medan and in Jakarta too. They change pork into beef or chicken to make the food halal, at consequence the food becomes less tasty. Malaysia is also a Moslem country, but Chinese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur and Penang don’t stupidly make their food halal.
