Who is the Next President of Indonesia ( Polling Results )

The Presidential election will be held soon after sometime in September 2009 to be confirmed. This April 09, citizens of Indonesia and residents of Medan will first elect their favorite politician (known as CALEG in Indonesia = Calon Legislative) to represent the people as representatives for the area / city of Medan as DPRD (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah). Presidential Election and Candidate
After this election, the parties will then nominate Presidential Candidates for the citizens of Indonesia to elect as President of Indonesia in September 2009. Presidential Candidates have not been officially announced as policatical parties are still waiting for the results of the Legislative Election. However, it can be seen from the polling results below.
To be nominated as a candidate for the Presidential Election, Presidential candidates need at least 20% of votes from the elected legislative candidates from April 09 election. Hence, the April Legislative election is a very important step for Presidential candidates to be nominated especially if the Presidential candidates are from small political parties like the current President of Indonesia – Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (commonly known as SBY) who is from Partai Demokrat ~ Democrat Party.
The two current largest political parties in Indonesia are Golkar headed by the current Vice President of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla and PDIP-P headed by the previous President of Indonesia – Megawati Sukarnoputri who had both signed an agreement to carry out a fair election campaign and ensuring public safety during the election. This is a good sign of security and stability of Indonesia for the coming election.

Will SBY the current President of Indonesia wins the election again?
This is a common question among the citizens of Indonesia. According to public polling, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono still holds over 43% popularity votes by the citizens of Indonesia. However, since Partai Demokrat is a small party and Presidential candidates need at least 20% of votes from legislative candidates to be nominated. The April legislative election is crucial to the current President. Partai Demokrat needs to win at least 20% of the seats / election to be able to nominate SBY as the next Presidential candidate for the Presidential Election. If Partai Demokrat does not win at least 20% of the legislative election, then it will need to find coalliation with other parties to help Partai Demokrat to nominate SBY as Presidential Candidate.
This will also determine who will run as Vice President with the President.
President and Vice President from Different Political Parties
This is also a popular questions among foreigners. Unlike other countries like the United States, the Vice Presidential Candidate of Indonesia can be from other political parties just like the condition at the moment where President SBY is from Partai Demokrat and Vice President Jussuf Kalla is from Partai Golkar. This is the result of coallition during the past election.
Popularity of Presidential candidates polling results published at Javno News:

Of those polled, 15 percent said they were undecided. Other presidential hopefuls got less than 10 percent in the poll, with the Sultan of Yogyakarta and Prabowo Subianto, a general with close ties to former President Suharto, getting 5 percent each.
Former military strongman Wiranto received 3 percent, and current Vice President Jusuf Kalla 2 percent.
Political Parties Polling Results
SBY Democrat Party has the support of 23 percent of those polled, putting it well ahead of the two main political parties, Megawati’s PDI-P and former President Suharto’s Golkar, with 17.1 percent and 13.3 percent respectively.
Islamist parties scored less than 5 percent, with the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) getting 4.8 percent and 4 percent respectively. One fifth of those polled were undecided.
With these polling results, SBY’s Partai Demokrat may well become one of the largest political party after the April 9 Parliamentary Election.
