Grand Deli City Shopping Hotel Office Convention Condominiums
It’s official, the latest retail and property development in Medan Indonesia - The Grand Deli City
Situated on the previous property of the 3 shopping buildings of Deli Plaza, Sinar Plaza and Menara Plaza on a 5 hectar land. The Grand Deli City will be built from 2008 by a Jakarta Developer using the superblock concept. This will be the largest and most complete shopping complex in Medan where a 5 in one concept will be developed with:
1. Shopping Mall
2. Condominium Apartment - 3 Towers
3. 4 star Hotel - 1 Tower
4. Office Building
5. Convention Trade Center
The project will be developed in stages where all the tenants from the 3 shopping mall will be moved to the current building of Deli Plaza which will also be renovated. Development will start by building a new shopping mall as when completed, the old Deli Plaza will be demolished to continue with the project.
It is said to have a night cafe near the river which will also be revamped creating a “24-hour” type of lifestyle since there will be condominiums in the complex.
by 2010, Medan will be crowded with international hotels and visitors will have greater choice. With 2 million population and not much tourism in Medan, is there enough market for these hotels to survive? The tourism board will need to promote more of Lake Toba and Brastagi and more investment in developing tourism would be needed.
Many predicted that with the airport plans to move to Kuala Namu, hotels will be in demand since residents from sub-urbans may need to overnight in Medan. We will see about that…

Medan Hotels seem to be having a high occupancy rate. It is quite difficult to book a Hotel in Medan town, so the question of enough market for these hotels to survive? The answer is definitely yes they will survive. Talking about Lake Toba, seem that the local government do not promote Late Toba at all, they should promote Lake Toba as and Angling heaven or as one of the FI speed boat competition circuit. I’m sure a lot of Malaysian who is tired of all the favorite fishing spot like Kenyir Dam, Temenggong Dam, Pergau Dam, Chenderoh Dam will be happy to be angling in Lake Toba which is very cooling compare to all the dams in Malaysia. With AirAsia & MAS who is serving 5 schedule flight daily for the Medan-KL route I don’t see why Malaysian will resist Lake Toba as their favorite venue.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:55 pm1 more question, with the Fuel price shooting rocket high, can Lake Toba be used for Hydro-electric provider or there is one already………

Toba drains into Asahan river which has been dammed with the Asahan dam. This is used by Inalum to generate hydroelectric power which is used for Aluminium smelting.
