Astro Direct Vision Stop Broadcasting

Astro Indonesia owned by PT Direct Vision suddenly stop broadcasting in Indonesia as of 19 October 2008 at 24.00 WIB without warning.
Hotels in Indonesia may not be able to provide cable TV for you in your room, so remember to check with your hotel if you desperately need your dose of Cable TV.
The first annoucenment we received in the morning of 20 October 2008 was an SMS message from Astro Indonesia ( Direct Vision TV ) stating that they have stopped broadcasting all channels. This has been a big surprise to all subscribers in Indonesia as one can never imagine a large company like Astro will shut down without any warning.
According to their website, all pre-payments of subscriptions to Astro Indonesia will be refunded and there is no confirmation if the service will be resumed. There are 98.000 Astro Subscribers in Indonesia and 36.000 will qualify for refunds which will be processed within 30 days!
Management of Astro Indonesia states that their license to continue using the Astro Brand and services were not renewed.

Hence all 98.000 Astro Indonesia subscribers in Indonesia are left without cable or satellite TV to watch their favorite movies, sports and international news.
Competition
Astro Indonesia’s direct competition is IndoVision which too provides cable broadcasting services. IndoVision was first in the market before Astro entered Indonesia “officially”.
Notice the word “officially”, yes, many Indonesian subscribed to Astro Malaysia where payments have to done one year in advance without any guarantee of service continuation. This is due to the better channels offered by Astro compared to IndoVision and cheaper too.
In 2007, Astro Indonesia had 145.000 subcribers, decreased to 98.000 subscribers in 2008. This could be due to lowered pricing and promotions by IndoVision in the past year. Could this be the cause? A basic subscription costs Rp200.000 per month x 98.000 subscribers = Rp19,600,000,000 sales per month ( USD 2 million ) which is still a big some of money 
Alternative Solutions
I guess, now everyone – 98.000 of them! will have to flop to IndoVision to get their new cable subscriptions to get their daily dose of cable TV entertainment since that is Medan’s favorite past time and family entertainment. If not, a quick search online found a software to receive Satellite TV Channels on your PC!
Most hotels may not be using Astro, however dont be surprise that the hotel you are staying does not have any CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, MTV, HBO, Star TV or Discovery Channel for the time being if they use Astro Services. So remember to ask before you book your hotel.

Luar biasa, Perusahaan sebesar Astro yang telah memiliki pelanggan ratusan ribu orang bisa tutup juga ya????, tapi salut buat manajemen yang tetap bertanggung jawab untuk menyelesaikan kelebihan pembayaran mereka karena tidak dapat menikmatin siaran Astro lagi sesuai kontrak yang telah dibayarkan, ini menunjukkan sikap sportifitas dan rasa bertanggung jawab penuh yang dimiliki pihak manajemen Astro, yang sudah jarang dilakukan oleh banyak perusahaan yang kebanyakan pihak manajemennya kaburrrrr tuhh nggak kelihatan.
I feel sad too to astro shut down, mungkin karna pihak pemerintah indonesia yg korupsinya menggila nggak pernah akan maju seperti malaysia, sebenarnya astro datang di indonesia mengambil banyak tenaga kerja lokal, membantu pertumbuhan ekonomi indonesia tapi cara pikir pegawai negara yg mau dapat uang banyak tanpa megerjakan apa pun alias nganggur,shoping, menggosip dll. kapan indonesia bisa berubah cara pikirnya??????????
sebelum astro masuk indonesia,saya sudah mengenalnya sejak saya sekolah di malaysia, saya menyukai siaran2nya ,terutama channel hwa li thai (channel mandarin),hampir setiap sinetronya bagus untuk di tonton,sangat bermutu dan banyak mengajarkan hal2 yang baik dalam kehidupan. begitu saya mengetahui astro tiba2 tidak siaran lg di Indonesia,membuat saya tidak percaya. tapi jika suatu hari astro kembali siaran lagi di Indonesia,saya akan tetap berlangganan.

Sad actually. Astro by itself is a great service provider, but its the people in management that is ought to be faulted.
Stock options, stock buying options, broadcasting rights, and monopoly of certain programs seems to be the thick of the issue.
I just want to watch a good family movie with my kids. Fortunately, I’m still able to with another operator.

Hi John,
I dont think anyone needs the Astro decoder as we are left with decoders that cannot be used since we cannot subscribe to Astro from Medan
